Carpet Dye??

My wife spilled some bathroom cleaner with bleach on carpet. Sure enough, bleached a couple dime size spots bleach white.

The carpet fibers don't look damaged, just white. The carpet is nothing special just standard contractor grade tan that you see in just about every house under 10 years old.

Is there a dye or something I can use? I mean it doesn't have to be a perfect match, just so I don't have to replace the carpet right now.

I'd consider bleaching the rest of the carpet and make it all white

Get a cat, dog, komodo dragon. They'll fill in those white spots.

I was thinking they make those bomb cans for auto upholstery.

I got kids, they would finish off a komodo dragon in 5-10 minutes.

Pablo, buy a box of RIT fabric dye, in a tan closest to the carpet color. I've found that RIT does an excellent job on just about any kind of fabric or carpet......no joke....

LR - I was thinking about RIT - but somehow thought it wouldn't work on carpet. The box of powder? What strength do you think I should mix ?

Maybe experiment on a piece that I have loose (from the door project).

If you are very motivated Pablo, you could find one of those big sets of children's felt-tipped coloring pens. There should be a color in there that matches your carpet close enough.

Well P, PapaBear hasn't had much luck with RIT, so I don't know.....I used it on some automotive carpet and it did a good job. I guess it depends on what type of synthetic your carpet is.

If you decide to try it, mix up about an ounce in a cup and apply it with a Q-tip. That way you can blend it in.

Tosh's idea of using felt-tip pens is a good one. I've used those on furniture touch-up, with good results.

I've found that RIT works well on natural fibres but not on synthetics (nylon etc). The color never came out right while trying to dye synthetics, seemed like some of the pigments "stuck" and some didn't. The hue or tint was always off.
You need a small throw rug, Pabs. Tell people it's for accent or highlight, not cover-up..
