Carmaker Nissan on borrowed time?

Rumor has it that Honda is looking to buy them. I think that would be foolish on Honda's part but maybe Nissan could teach Honda how to build a half decent sports car and Honda could teach Nissan how to build cars that are reliable.
Nissan could DEFINITELY teach Honda how to properly paint/clear that won't peel off before it's paid for!

Nissan has always been the slightly cheaper car then a Honda or Toyota however when sit in and drive it you know why.

They peeked with 1990 Nissan 300ZX and late 80s Maxima.
ahh yes the 300zx.. a car to drool over!!(y)

but how different nissan is now.. not even the same..

The newer Nissan cvt’s are far more refined than the past units. Had a 17 and 19 Corolla those cvts although no issues were very sluggish and made no use of the Corolla’s underwhelming powertrain to begin with. Nissan may have had bad years in the cvt market but I believe are doing right by it now.

People can bash the CVT and Nissan using them all they want, but with all the vehicles I've had/driven for decades I still prefer the CVT in mine over ALL others. No retarded high/low shift points or RPM searching, it holds an optimum RPM for my driving style which is very useful on inclines and very smooth in the process.
Don't Nissan's CVT's have fake shift points? It's one of the reasons why I hate certain CVT's.

Can't agree as I have driven both brands and were appliance-like in comparison. The interior especially on various Yotas have been garbage in material choice and implementation.

Mine doesn't as it's extremely fluid-like and seamless. If switched to sport mode and left in auto (mode) it does have shift points, but if shifted manually in sport mode it doesn't. In that case you control the shift points and no rev limiter comes into play either.

Doesn't surprise me. Vehicles are not flying off the lots like they were 3 years ago. I was going looking at the Nissan Maxima because they seemed to be a reasonable buy for a previously owned daily driver. I soon found out about all the CVT issues and decided to keep driving the ole daily driver Civic. There are so many automakers in today's world and it's not the BIG 3 anymore like it was in the 50's and 60's. It's very competitive in today's car market.

Yeah, but do they actually compete in areas we value ...like QUALITY, or do they compete in marketing dazzle and flash?
The legacy 3 spend the most on advertising. By a long shot.

I would guess Nissan spends very little comparatively. In fact I would guess a lot of their marketing is targeted at previous buyers, because I get a lot of stuff from them, and I haven't bought anything since 2011.

Tesla spends the least.

Surprised nobody has posted this yet:

"12 or 14 months?" Oh snap.

Hey, somebody get Stellantis' (new) CEO's phone number. Maybe they can get together and form the automotive equivalent of the Justice League of fading and struggling car brands.

:)
When I saw the title of this thread I imagined jabs would be thrown at Stellantis in post #2.

You beat it. Stellantis trashed in post #1.

My 1st car was my grandfathers 91 maxima let it be known that was one sweet vehicle that’s the generation Nissan needs to revive in their soul.

I'm not paying $39 to enter the paywall.
Some insiders say Nissan has 12 to 18 months to survive.
Me personally? I cant think of one thing they have done right in over 20 years. Bombshell after bombshell. I remember my wife bought a 2002 Altima brand new right before she met me. What a disaster the Altima was. Almost from the day it was no longer under warranty.

I remember the Nissan Pathfinder was a real truck type SUV and they turned it into a mom mobile and now trying to get back to a truck like vehicle. I honestly cant think of a compelling vehicle in their lineup. Long term Failure after failure. It's a company that can do nothing right in my mind.

Good notes but I think they did have a few vehicles that had some higher HP numbers, in 2000-2010 years, that I can't think of off the top of the head...real memorable...HA!

Just did a quick browse of the website & seen a 100k/5yr warranty on Titan. Someone needs to make a list here of different brand warranties to see how they stack up. There is an asterisk at the end of the warranty statement & I'm not sure what it reflects.

"When you have a TITAN, you drive with confidence thanks to TITAN’s 5-year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) bumper-to-bumper limited warranty."

Yet Nissan is consistently higher in every reliability study than Ford and Chrysler and many other brands, and has been for decades.

Don’t tow with it, have it serviced at recommended intervals by the dealer lol. That’ll keep you covered under warranty
