Adam Wainwright pitched a FANTASTIC game tonight and my Cardinals advance to face the Dodgers.

This is going to be a great series.

Go Cards. When they hired Matheny as manager, I thought, "What are they doing?" Guess that's why they are running the most successful baseball franchise and I am reading BITOG forums.

Matheny, Kozma, no running game, losing 2 closers, and not much power. None of it makes sense to me. Somehow they come through time after time. And even after losing Craig. Can't imagine how they'll get past Puig & Kershaw, but maybe they will.

It's the Cardinal Way to win when others say they can't.

The Cardinal bats were quiet with just a few exceptions, yet we still beat the Pirates. When Carpenter starts to hit doubles again and Kozma slaps a few timely, groundball singles we should have enough to beat the Hollywood Dodgers.

There are many reasons the Cardinals win. The front office always seem to make the right moves. They have the deepest farm system in baseball. Wainwright leads by example and tutors the young pitchers. Molina does the same for the position players. Matheny is the poster child for never panicking. Always seems to have the right players on the field at the right time.

Tradition and character.

I figured Matheny would be good. I just didn't figure it would happen right away.

It's almost always exciting to watch Cardinals baseball. Last night, they simply made fewer mistakes than the Pirates, and capitalized on the ones the Pirates made. The two key mistakes I saw the Bucs make were some two out walks that turned into runs, and some poor base running choices. Not one, but two times, Pittsburgh hit into fly ball double plays.

Oh, and the ball Adams CRUSHED. I am glad I was home from my class last night in time to see it. You could tell it was gone as soon at it left the bat!

I do agree, LA will be more difficult. I just hope the Cardinals are once again peaking at the right time.

Whatever the outcome, you can be sure there will be some great baseball to watch.

I'm sorry, but Puig is overrated IMO, he's good, but people act like he's the greatest player to ever put on a uniform. I think Matt Adams is as good as Puig batting, Puig is a great outfielder.

The Cardinals are 2-0 against Kershaw this year, and Wainwright is every bit as good if not better. Only reason he won't win the Cy Young this year is that the media is too busy slobbering all over Kershaw.

Remember, the Cardinals achieved the best record in baseball being in the toughest division in baseball as well.

I am a huge Giants fan and this NLCS features two teams and fan bases I am highly annoyed by. A battle of yuck and worst possible yuck. I wish the Pirates were still in it because now I have to hope some clownball team wins

Despite my hate for all things dodger saying Matt Adams is anywhere near the hitter Puig is flat out laughable. Puig will get consideration for MVP this year. The Cardinals are among if not the best run teams in all of baseball (Matheney despite being a good Giant

was exposed during last years NLCS) but their fans seem to think that all of their players are the best ever n stuff. It's not just me saying that. I hear it from fans of other teams as well.

Since Puig plays for the Dodgers, he gets the media coverage.

Lets look at both players.

Puig - .319/19/42
Adams - .284/17/51

Puig is good player, but so is Adams.

As far as fanbases go, go to either a Dodgers or Giants game and your life is at risk. Opposing teams fans are not treated badly in St. Louis.

I don't think the Cardinals have the best players at each position. Shortstop is a work in progress, I like David Freese, but he's nowhere near the best overall 3rd baseman in the league, Matt Holliday is a real good player, but not the best, Jon Jay is serviceable in CF, Beltran in LF is good, but not the best, Matt Carpenter is among the leagues best at 2nd, Craig and Adams man 1st base very well.

The only position the Cardinals have what I feel is the "best" player is Molina at catcher.

I think the Cards say that coming and said let him go. I have no ill will against Puljos. I suspect he's older than his "papers" say he is and the Angels have a very expensive future DH.

It's hard to fault the St. Louis fans. Yes I'm biased. Lived near STL for the majority of my life.

But you'll see STL fans cheer for the opposing team when they turn a spectacular play. St. Louis fans are some of the most knowledgeable and gracious fans watching MLB.

How many other small market baseball teams draw 3.4 million fans/year?

I have the benefit of listening to Sports Talk here, and it's clear that a good number of fans DON'T think we have the best players at times. I think we believe our players can step up. But we also get nervous when it comes to relief pitching. Or wondering which Adam Wainwright will be on the mound? Do we get the one we had last night, or the one that blew up last year in the NLCS?

Like I said, rarely a dull moment watching Cardinals baseball.

Yes, because Albert is really tearing the AL apart since he left.

Albert got VERY rich off the deal, but no one in their right mind thinks that he is worth 250 million dollars right now.

Maybe we could see a 2006 World Series re-match. That would be awesome.

I tried looking for the Tigers game last night on tv but couldn't find it. Hard to be believe it wasn't televised nationally. Espn, tnt, cbs...

It was on TBS

If the Cardinals win the NL pennant, it will be a rematch with either team. The Red Sox swept the Card's in the 2000's, don't remember which year.

What a great first game of the NLCS. Defense was great on both teams. If Carlos Beltran continues to have a good post season, he will cement his admission to the Hall of Fame IMO. This coming from not the biggest Beltran fan out there.

Cards lost to the Red Sox in 2004 World Series.

We just beat the Dodgers best two pitchers and they haven't even seen Wainwright yet. I'm hoping they keep going.
