Car barely moves in 0F temps.

Installed a new "Pure Energy" alternator yesterday. It moves! Guess I was fortunate the car made it home with no charge at night. What I found during the replacement. The bad smell the night before must have been this.

I cleaned the alternator terminals, grounds, connectors up as best I could. Cut back the harness to see if anything was fried. The tape got a little hot but the wire and it's coating seemed okay so I taped it back up and put it back together again. Check out the inside of the positive rubber boot turned inside out. Looks like it was literally on fire!!! How does that happen?

Bad regulator on the alternator.....
That is one easy alternator to replace.......it's right there in your face.

High resistance on the connector, I bet if a IR temp reader was pointed at that connector when the car was running, it would be pretty close to the ignition point of rubber....you dodged a car fire!
