I was wondering if anybody can identify the proper part number for the following application

1996 Mustang "Premium" stereo factory amp bypass (non-Mach)

A long time ago I paid a shop to install my headunit in the Mustang... Well its never sounded all that great, even with nice JL speakers. Come to find out the factory system used an amp right below the deck. I could cut and solder/crimp but its tight in there and would be nice to not hack it up. Should just need a simple 2-connector adapter to go from headunit speaker out to amp speaker out since I'm running an aftermarket headunit. I could buy a whole install kit but don't need any other pieces...

Check out Crutchfield. They probably have something that would work. You could also run new speaker wires directly to the new speakers. I did that on my old 86 Mustang with "premium sound". Took a little bit of effort but I never had to worry about the amps again.

The car may no longer be stock though. First you have to look at what the other place did; if they were cutting wires...

I would take the time just to run new speakers wires. Chances are the head unit is more powerful than the stock amp. Would be cheaper most likely; some of those adapters are not cheap. You could get a wiring diagram of the speaker outs on the amp and connect them there off the unit.

Opened it all up last night. Shop had done a fair job using normal harness adapters. Unfortunately they did it wrong and basically plugged the headunit into stock harness- thus feeding factory amp speaker level signal from the nice 50wx4 MOSFET. Yes, I could run new speaker wires and that would be a GOOD idea but I'm just not willing to put that effort into that particular project (especially since these cars are known for their poor sound stage to begin with). Picked up an adapter from a local shop that should plug in to the speaker output from the amp, a few snips of the existing adapter harness and it should wire up nicely.

Just for fun, what do people like to use for auto speaker wire? I doubt home audio stuff is appropriate but I also don't think GXL or the like is ideal either. I'm sure any shop/store would have it but this is something I would bargin shop for online and do on a nice sunny day with a few beers
