So I have two motorcycles, these both can use #5 filter from this website: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html#5

Currently, I have Purolator L14610 on the bike(same can be used on my Civic), which I am almost finished on my stash.

Question which I have is, can I use 15400-PLM-A02 instead of Purolator? Because L14610 is specified for my Civic too, while A02 is the OEM filter for that same Civic as well.

But I just wanted to confirm before I experiment and make my engine explode.

Should I have no problem using it or I should stay away?

Thanks for all of your input and help.

Yeah u can use it... For bikes i like the 1358 Wix/NAPA the honda filter unless its old is probably a fram made filter.

Why not use the Purolator for both? PLM-A02 has poor efficiency -- a so-called rock catcher that is. It's probably more important for the bike to have a good filter than the Civic.

I use that oil filter on my Polaris 500 and 700 and on my Triumph Thunderbird without issues. I don't even have a Honda car.
It's just a better deal than bike filters.
Can we drop all the Amsoil propaganda props.
Really can hardly do a oil search without one of their test data results pop up which is always so stellar I am surprised any cars even run past 30,000 miles on Conventional oil.

Do you use that A02 filter or Purolator one? Thanks

Thank you, but I am running low on the stash of L14610, while plenty of A02

If a Honda Civic filter fits your cycle, ANY filter for a Honda Civic/Accord will work.
That opens up a wide selection of sizes and quality.

Just as a cautionary note - Purolator made a change in the design of the base plate on their 14610/14612 filters about a year or two ago. The base plate is now convex and what some people found was that this redesigned base plate was bottoming out prematurely against the bottom of the threaded boss and not allowing the gasket to seal correctly when the filter was tightened on some bikes. Resulting in oil leaks - sometimes catastrophic.

Check the base plate on your L14610 - if it's concave (old design) you should be fine, but if it's convex, be very careful installing it on your bike.

Thanks very much guys, I appreciate it.

I am running out of L14610, but have many Honda OEM ones laying around and will use those moving forward!

Another brilliant design change by Purolator.

It only matters if the thread protrudes higher than the lip of the can, right? I don't think any common filter has a protruding thread. Maybe the engine maker didn't have threads all the way down. Looking at a couple filters here, I see Champ labs made AC Delco PF1233 has a convex base that is pretty close to the rim of the can. Without the gasket of course. Nothing wrong with that.

By the way the Filtech version must be Purolator. I don't think Filtech actually makes any filters. They only distribute them. So, perhaps that PLM-A01 version made by Purolator may not fit on some motorcycles.

Yes, the problem is that on some motorcycles the threaded portion of the union bolt onto which the filter screws ends above the gasket mating surface on the crankcase - so the threads on the filter do not need to be higher than the lip of the can to cause problems. They just need to be not far enough below the lip of the can. On the Purolators, the change in base plate design from concave to convex raised the threads just enough to be problematic for some applications.

Of course, if you contact Purolator, they will tell you their 14610/14612 filters are not intended for motorcycles so you're basically SOL.

So I should be good to go for A02, being a concave one.

Any other cheaper and better filter options available to me? Any suggestions?

Thanks again guys

Be better off using the AO2 over that junk Tearolator. See if you can run a good filter like a Fram Ultra on your bike, you'll thank me later!

Fram Ultras are great filters, I've been using them on my bike for the past 30K miles. XG6607 for the shorter length, XG7317 for the longer one. You can find them cheaper in bulk if you get the Fram Pro versions - FPS instead of XG. Widely available on Ebay.

SO what's the number of Fram Pro. Is it FP7317? Thanks
