Car and Driver: 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V Is a Three-Row SUV Hiding a 682-HP V-8. 3 ton / $150k / 4.4 0-60 / 12.7 qt mi @ 110 mph. 😳

This represents the last hurrah of the over-the-top fossil-fuel powered vehicle era...they will be taxed, regulated, outlawed out of existence soon as the Green New Deal-California-ization spreads globally. By the 2030-2040 time frame you will only see such 'beasts' in a museum.

The way things are going we might see $8 a gallon gas prices by summer.

No need for a vehicle like this on the road.

Pretty slick.

Usage cases range from ludicrous with 2 guys and drive through, to a truck, van, or two vehicle solution.

Functionally replaces many 1/2 tons with 7K tow capacity and AWD or even excelling where they dont - with three rows carting 5 big guys or a large family on a trek through the high speed Southwest where you get heat and altitude while luggage towing a 7K ski boat/ toy hauler through all terrain and elevation and still retaining great performance.

In some use cases it will be cheaper than taking or needing 2 cars.

That said we been running blown small block for decades I think a modern high capacity 7L Na 500/500 small block would make more sense in a lot of ways, but Im based toward CI.

I rode around with 5 guys in a yukon XL all weekend looking at at a private car and boat collection - (nicest Ive ever seen personally gonna do a separate thread.) where a vehicle like this or at least the " chevy" or gmc version of it makes sense.

Vehicles like this dont make sense in many places because they dont do the same things we do.

Imo there's nothing more luxurious and classy looking than a black Lincoln or Cadillac. I'm not an suv or truck guy, but it's definitely a beautiful vehicle (y)

That’s a bit steep. I would buy one if i made insane money, like 7 figures a year, to justify buying and feeding that.

I am happy with my cheap 05 escalade and rarely need even half throttle on that old 6.0. These cars dont need tons of power, its about relaxing and enjoying the ride.

Escalade V at 150k makes the CT5 Blackwing look ā€˜cheap’ by comparison.

Can't wait to see these:

1.) Used in the city as a limo/taxi service
2.) In the ghetto, 2 weeks before getting repo'd

The whiniest group I have seen on fuel prices drive large SUV's and full-size trucks that cost $80k+ to cart a family of 1-4 around or a bed full of air :)

I have an old buddy of mine that has a Nissan GTR, , Evo, fully loaded Durango, at least 1 other car, and a boat, complain about gas prices and oil company profits....

If you can afford this vehicle (new), you can afford the fuel costs. Now, as a used car proposition....?

At the end of the day, the decision as to whether or not there is a "need" for such vehicle lies with the buyer, not the government. If there is continuous demand, GM will keep producing it so long as they can sell it.

Many years ago, in Europe, your vehicle "tax bracket" was determined by engine size. When manufacturers starting coming up with smaller, more powerful engines, the powers that be decided to taxes would now be based off of CO2 emissions.

We're going to see $10 gas and diesel in the not too distant future and it'll be covered under the guise of "suggesting" people buy "greener" vehicles; i.e. electric cars that not only people cannot afford, but we don't have the infrastructure for.

The sound of these things are amazing! We have a lot of them stored on plant property until the actual release to dealers. The drive like you would expect - STRONG.

Yeah I'm not paying $150,000 for the short wheel base version of my 2021 Escalade with a supercharger on its 6.2 and some extra knick knacks.

$150,000 that's unjust. My long wheel base premium luxury starts at 88k and that's far enough.
The V is available in long wheel base as well. I work at the plant and see these and still wonder who can afford them. Most Escalades we are building are Platinum Sports with stickers averaging 105k. We build very few 85k Escalades...oddly enough the new Denali Ultimates are running 99k so go figure that one out lol....clearly a GMC in Cadillac territory.

Why not?

Ram will sell you a $100,000 1/2 ton pickup
Ford and Ram will sell you a $100,000 1 ton pickup
Cadillac, Lincoln, and Jeep will sell you a $100,000 SUV

It's the next step in the accelerating trend of nosebleed pricing on high trim trucks and SUVs.

Give it a year and Stellantis will be making a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk with a Hellcat engine and selling it for $150k. I'm actually surprised they haven't already.
Rumor is that a Tomahawk version of the Grand Wagoneer with the 6.4 pushing close to 800hp is soon coming.

Yeah its gotten nuts. I remember paying only 54k all said and done for my yukon xl denali brand new back then. And i still own the girl, such a great truck. Minimal issues after 322k and counting.

2023 Cadillac Gluttonymobile. But it's not alone in the market. I have to admit I envy people who don't even blink at that window sticker, but if I was one of those people, that is not what I would buy.
I think it's exactly what I would buy if I hit the lotto. Big, safe, fast, comfortable and it's not going to attract too much attention.

The ESV is also offered in V.

This thing is grossly overpriced. The C8 z06 starts at $106k and GM wants $150k for a Tahoe with a supercharger?

I mean even the Alpina XB7 retails for less.

I think the issue here isn’t so much the price but rather it’s an escalade. The wagoneer tomahawk will get a lot more attention when it comes out.
