Can't get oil filter unstuck, 08 Element/CRV.

Big old +1 on that Lisle tool-just make sure you check with a new filter to see if it fits (there's a large tool & a small one).

If you can't wait for Amazon, AZ sells a similar design and same size but sold under the OEM name. 'I' have had good success using it on Honda sized filters.

I googled 08 Element filter location, one pic looked like it would be in a difficult spot. If you can access to end/dome of the filter, a cap wrench should work. The cam action linked doesn't require exact fit of the end.
Walmart stocks it, but it's Fram branded. Works very good. Never can find it on their website, but every Walmart in my local area stocks it. It was $8 and some change the last time I looked at the shelf price.

That lisle tool is sold at AAP, or at least the two stores near me.
I have it and it is awesome, plain as that.
Since I don't overtighten my filter a typical band wrench will do, but the lisle is great for hard to reach places.
Then as backup I bought oil filter vice grips from Harbor Frieght. Had a horrible situation where my lawn tractor's FF oil filter was tightened by King Kong and tried the screwdriver punched through the can trick and ended up tearing all the filter except for the mounted base plate. Scared beyond my belief I bought the vice grips, locked it down with a death squeeze and it spun right off.
I have it and it is awesome, plain as that.

You must not work on very many chevy or GM if that is the only tool you need
I will +1 the HF filter pliers.. they are great.. usually get not the end of the can so it does not crush.

Well I finally got it off. I went in from the top of the engine and used the oil filter pliers which are like the Harbor Freight pliers posted above and was able to get enough leverage to get it off. My arms are quite not long enough but I was able to get the new one on from the top as well. From the top is the only way I was able ti get enough leverage. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!

Had to help my neighbor recently as he crushed then sheared his filter. Lucky there was enough for me to use a ratchet driven strap wrench to bite on and get it loose - looks almost like:
