Where do you buy your oil filter cutter? The lowest price for a tail pipe cutter was $50

I am planning to start cutting my filters but I fear if I use my multi-cutter tool I will kill my filter

Everyone should cut their filters this way the quality control of various filter company will have to improve... before the internet filters that were junk sold because they were pretty.

Up to 2 1/2 inch though.

Aren't most filters close to 3 inches?

Did that ever break the pleats or damage the filters?

If you use a hacksaw, doesn't the shavings get all into the pleats and obscure the purpose of examining the filter? I've thought of doing it but figured it would defeat the purpose.

Or you could look on your local Craigs list under the tool category for a used pipe cutter. I agree using a hacksaw to cut a filter will put shavings where you don't want them, making the whole purpose of cutting the filter moot.,,,

I got a pipe cutter similar to this one many years back. Harbor freight pipe cutter . It's meant to cut thicker material and I had to be real easy, but it worked ok on the one filter I did.

UPDATE: So I went today and it does indeed fit thanks for the suggestion!

My filter XG6607 is around 2 1/2 - 3 inches and this one does up to 4 inches barely.

I will wait for a deal on it as my oci is not until spring "IF IT EVER COMES!"
