I wanted to use mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my maxima and i'm assuming most transmission places don't use synthetic so can i bring my own in and give it to them to use for a flush?

Sourcing you own fluid for use by the shop should not be a problem. Just make sure the shop doesn't try to charge you for conventional fluid they didn't dispense, and make sure they return whatever supplied fluid that wasn't used. If they balk, find another shop. What could be a problem, though, is whether a Dexron III fluid such as Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is compatible with the frictional requirements of the bands and clutch packs in your Nissan transaxle if it's an automatic unit. Good luck.

I have taken my Amsoil synthetic ATF to a place that has the T-Tech ATF flushing machine and they had no problem with it. I had to take almost 3 gallons BTW.

I watched while they did it to make sure everything went smoothly. They had a clear tube comming off the return line of the cooler so one could see how dark and dirty the old fluid looked compard to the new stuff.

I went to Autozone and picked up 20 quarts of Mobil 1 one synthetic ATF. It cost me $107.00.
I drove by an EZ-Lube to check on the price for a fluid exchange on my truck (99 Ford Powerstroke 7.3l Diesel)with Mobil 1 sytnthetic. Normally it costs $89.00 for a fluid exchange, but with the added qrts of fluid my transmission takes they charged me "out the door" $124.50. Thats a difference of $17.00. If I paid my self $25.00 an hour to do the job I'd have lost money..
It made more sense to have them do it...

Something to think about if you are going to replace all of the fluid in a transmission or do a transmission flush in a vehicle that takes a lot of fluid like a full sized truck. ATF, almost any brand, is available in 5 gal (20 qt.) containers.

I get a 5 gallon pail of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF here in Alaska for $79.50. Check with your local Mobil distributor - most auto parts stores don't carry the 5 gal containers.

Sure beats dealing with 20 1 qt bottles and it saves a few bucks.

Wow your truck takes a lot of fluid, autozone will take back the unused ones with no problems? Mine only takes 12 quarts for a flush i believe.

I asked two shops recently if I could bring my own fluid and both agreed, and they both even dropped $20 off of the rate. One couldn't complete the job as they didn't have the proper fittings so I went to another shop that they suggested. It may have helped that they didn't have the type of ATF that I wanted, which was a Mercon V only fluid and not Mercon with Lube Guard, which is what a lot of shops evidently do for Mercon V. I brought 16 qts of Castrol Mercon V, and they emptied it inot their Wynn (?) machine.

Isn't this similar to going to a restaurant and bringing your own dish?
