Found this spiced ground chicken on sale as well as the squash. Can this be made in the oven without pre-cooking the meat on the stove? i.e. cut the squashes in half, scoop out the guts and fill with the chicken, then bake.

I would brown on stove top first then bake it. You will probably get a fair amount of grease when cooking hence my idea to pan fry. I wouldn't want to get the squash saturated with grease. Sounds yummy though.

My guess is squash and chicken will require different amount of time in the oven, so I'd probably do them separately - squash in the oven, and chicken stir-fried.

What about microwaving the meat first.
Just no.

But you could probably bake it in the oven alongside the squash - in a separate baking pan. Depending on how big the chicken pieces are, they may take less time than the squash.

Based on some recipes I've seen, a-corn squash can take 60-70 mins at 400F. Chicken breast will take 20-25min.

You could cook that meat in a cast iron skillet first in the oven, then take it out and put that cooked meat inside the squash and then finish cooking it in the oven. Why do I feel hungry now?

I would do it in the oven with the squash, mixed in, because when you make meatloaf you mix raw meat with the other ingredients and bake it.

That is an understanding wife! “Sweetie, I can’t finish the squash on the stove top too many cut and posts drying out.”Stick it in the oven, I don’t care! “Where do think the transfer cases are?”

I agree. To answer the question respectfully I would brown the meat mixture using either stove top or microwave. Season to your preference. A light sprinkling of crushed cloves tastes good. In the meantime pre heat the oven to 400 Fahrenheit and bake the stuffed squash for about 30 minutes or so until fork tender. If it’s almost there I would remove it and tent with foil until you serve it. A drizzle of maple syrup would not make you a bad person. Enjoy. To each his own. Stove tops included.
