can i keep using this oversized drain plug?

On the beater camry that my parents drive. They had jiffy lube cross thread and strip the drain plug a while ago before i started to do their oil changes. I was [censored] they charged them $39 for conventional oil changes.

So after i found out that they screwed the drain plug. Kinda went back and fourth with getting an oil pan or doing a oversized plug since we dont really plan on keep the car super long.

I found a piggyback plug.

This is oversized plug with a 10mm plug at the back end so i dont screw up the threads anymore. But pass couple oil changes have taken WAY WAY too long. To drain it would like 30 minutes, in most cases i could rotate the tires, top off all the fluids, clean up all my tools and it still draining.

I'm thinking of going back to a normal plug but obviously the oversized self tapping ones. Can you keep using or will the threads give out after a while?

Lisle sells a drain plug repair kit.Its sorta like a solid Heli Coil,with a tap/reamer and they give you a new drain plug of a rather large size.Its a garage sized kit (does like 5 pans).Its around $100 for the kit,but once its fixed,it should be fixed.Plus you can repair 4 other people's pans with it to make money.

I would think you could get a tap and and O/S drain plug for around $10. Shouldn't need a fancy kit.

If you've already tapped the threads with a self-tapper, you should be able to use an oversize with normal threads. Continued use of self-tappers will cut out the threads quickly.
