Can I flush better with no thermostat?

Needing to flush all the nasty stuff that was in my cooling system from the blown HG (milkshake, oil, rust, etc) out. Considering running it wit no thermostat to achieve desired result, and also clean heater core. I bought some white vinegar. How long do I run it for?

Assume I do not have access to a garden hose, but can buy amazingly large quantities of distilled water at 88c a gallon. How best to do a drive-in flush?

IDK if white vinegar or dishwashing detergent is compatable with cooling systems. Maybe but, I just don't know!

I would just to a driveway flush the proper way and don't drive the car w/o a T-Stat!

Sure, after using tap/garden hose water, you can refill & drain(your block) with distilled H20 to get out as much regular water as possible.

Others will chime in with the proper flushing procedure for your particular vehicle. Some systems ONLY require a drain/refill to eliminate trapped air. It's an easy job but, to get out all of the(possible)trapped air, this could get tedious!

No. Go get two bottles of prestone flush. Extract enough coolant off the radiator cap to add one bottle. Then drive the car for a day or two with one of the bottles added and the heater on high. Then drain and flush with water. Add bottle #2 to the water refill and drive around for an hour or two using the heater on full heat again. Then flush this mess out. Refill with water and drive around again also using heater. Flush again completely. Now add 50-50 coolant with a bottle of anti-rust and water pump lubricant. Purge all air. You are now GTG for 50,000 miles and can do a drain fill every 50k and never flush again. I would also replace your thermostat while doing all of this and wash the overflow bottle.

BTW, if you have an excessive amount of crud. Remove the lower radiator hose at the radiator to drain all the gunk out instead of the petcock. This will allow you to see the inside of the hose and get an idea as to how the flush is doing.

+1 if you can't use a hose, all you can really do is flush/run a few times unless you have a way of pressurizing the distilled water to back flush the block and heater core.

Prestone flush is for calcium. You don't have calcium.

I just cascade'd a saturn that had a cracked head, worked great. Plain water and cascade, over and over.

Pull the t-stat, absolutely.

Running with no T-Stat or flushing with no T-Stat?
I've flushed with no T-Stat but, I don't recomend running with no T-Stat!
