Camping and gov shutdown

Without going into politics: what are the odds of this being done soon? I have a trip planned for next weekend, and I was hoping to go into Acadia on Friday for the day. I'll find other things to if it's closed, but it'll be a bummer if it is.

One last camping trip of the season. I'm hoping the camper makes it, I noticed a few more creaks today while checking out the heat--electric space heater, want to see if it will do the trick. I think it will.

Just read in this morning's (Saturday) Arizona Republic that a deal was struck to open up some of the federal parks including the Grand Canyon National Park which is a big deal here in Arizona because of tourism dollars it brings in. I believe I read Arizona's guv is using state money to do this, and also thought I read for now it's only for a week.

Acadia is doubtful as the state has no funds to take over.

Today President Obama rejected for the 4th time the proposal sent to him by the House. I doubt the 5th proposal will be any different, sorry about your trip.

I'll live, trip was planned for other events. For all I know it might rain.

Wow! The grand canyon is closed?! I don't know what acadia is but can't you camp pretty much anywhere? That's what we do. Find a dirt road and camp there.

There's a small town just before the main gate into Grand Canyon Park. The town pretty much exists and survives only because of tourists passing through to Canyon. Last week Arizona wanted to open up park using state money, but Feds said no. I assume this temporary opening of parks was result of talks and pressure from Congressman whose states are affected by shutdown and the Feds.

Oh, we are camping in Ellsworth, we have stuff to do in Orono on Saturday and this was just a weekend trip anyhow. We would have enough fun just in Bar Harbor to make the trip worth it.

Edit: this camper isn't set up for camping outside of a campground--next one, maybe.

I wonder if they closed the native indian access to the grand canyon? They won't be happy if they lose income too.

All went well. I think I got 17mpg for the 790 mile trip, but I was running behind for most it so I was keeping up with traffic. Kids got to see a bit of where mom and went to college, bored everyone to death with my old haunt at college. But we all had fun at Sand beach, Mount Cadillac, and we hiked around Jordan pond. Didn't freeze while camping either. While I would have made do, I was quite glad the stupid shutdown was over with.
