Jesus, I think you made your point.

How much does a nice V8 convertible Camaro end up going for, over 40K?

I'd rather get into a C7 Vette, roll the windows down, and pretend it was a convertible. At least for a New vs New comparison. Many great used convertibles are out there dripping chunks of depreciation every day. Benz, BMW, SAAB, probably lots more.

I would not enjoy being in a 40k car that the same brand has a 50k corvette that totally destroys it in performance and even has a 7th gear.

I'd highly suggest just renting a nice drop top camaro and seeing if that gets it out of your system as all of these cars mentioned are big money and big money lost in depreciation.

Like I said, I don't fit in a Corvette so nothing else really matters does it? BTW, I believe all C7 coupes are targas, I.e., the roof comes off making it a semi-convertible.

I found the Camaro to be a cramped car... but that was more of my perspective. Knee area was a bit bothersome

Where do you "not fit"? Where is the proportion issue happening? I am 6'4" with all of my height in my legs/feet but I am shorter than my 5'8 wife sitting down. However, my brother has his height in his upper-body with very wide shoulders so some car I fit in and some he can but rarely both. I had a hard time fitting into a Lincoln Towncar's driver's seat but the MR2 is paassible. Sure the MR2 is a leg-squeezer, but enough if you are not doing a 8h roadtrip. Heck, nothing beat my old 280... I could stretch out!

It's good looking. Period.

It's also overweight. But, so am I (by at least 10 pounds) and I do fit in the Convertible very well and find it quite comfortable.

I rent them when ever I can. I MUCH prefer the way the Camaro convertible drives vs. the Mustang convertible. The IRS makes all the difference. Plus I think the Camaro's chassis is stiffer.

EDIT: The weight is not an issue at all, IF you consider that HP is easy to find on these large V8's. A simple Vortec supercharger will bring the LS3 powered Camaro into the 11's without any difficulty at all. No headers, no exhaust mods, no nothing. Just the blower. If you are trying to say that 4000 pounds feels terrible in a sporty car, that's simply not so. The Camaro drives well.

Well, I would say the Camaro handles its weight better than the "other two domestic coupes", it is not a sportscar and it does feel heavy... just like my 1.8 has no torque compared to a V8. There is a big difference from a 2200lbs car to a 3200lbs car to a 3700lbs car. It is a big hunk of iron. Heck, the 370Z is too heavy.

Where are the 2200lb cars? Heck, you cannot find a powerful 3000lb car. Hence my thread about the perfect car=3000lbs, 300hp, $30K. My slightly modded Mazdaspeed3 is very close but it's FWD which disqualifies it. It also has a bone-jarring ride in order to handle good. Most would find it objectionably stiff. I thought I would never go for a 4000lb car but I don't think I've ever driven one with 426hp. It works. Would I prefer it to be lighter? Sure but my driving style also ain't what it used to be in the full-on Hooligsn days.

Yup, even my E39 is a hair over 4,000lbs....

Since the Camaro easily outsells the Stang the market has spoken.

Camaro is very well liked by its owners, gets great reviews, and HANDLES like few other cars on the road today. Very minor mods can create a real monster that embarrasses much lighter and more expensive cars at the track.

Tough luck on that weight issue, but Overkill and I both can show you that the fun doesn't stop at 4 thousand pounds.

Just an FYI, the tiny and very light weight Honda S2000 weighs in at nearly 2900 pounds. Sorry, but we cannot compare some of the very small cars from yesterday with today's cars.

Consider the example of the 1966 Mustang. It's a classic car and people have the impression that it's not tiny. But, park it next to a Toyota Corrola and the Mustang is clearly smaller! It's no wonder the Mustang is lighter.

The 1964.5/1966 Mustang was only a few inches longer overall than the MustangII. (and a couple of inches narrower) You look at a MustangII and think that it is a tiny car but it was actually pretty close to the original.

But in comparison with the late model Corolla, it's roughly the same size as the original Mustang.

Compare a 1966 Mustang with a 1968 Corolla (North America...the rest of the world got the Corolla in 1966) and the Mustang is huge.

It's all a matter of perspective. Look at the hood length of the Mustang and it looks to be about 5 feet longer than the Corolla's.

I drove and raced a 94 miata "R" package. It was 2400 pounds, stripped of everything. No way to get a miata to 2000 pounds without giving it an acid bath.

My Mk3 MR2 is 2195 with the spare wheel included. With me in it, it is still less than a Miata. They exist.... barely.

Now, it seems like 2,800 is "light" but is not. I don't consider the S2000 to be a 'tiny' car either. Cars have gotten bigger and heavier... and they all have horrible ESC. Weight is the enemy... you want to improve a car, make it lighter... but folks want non-working voice activated infotainment crud... oh well.

Yeah, as my back gets worse, I want more "comfort".

A true base model will be lighter than an R. R-package Miatas all got power steering and, I think, A/C. Also, doesn't a 94 have a second airbag?

Nope. R package Miata's had manual steering, and base model type config specs, such as roll up windows and so on. Just the Bilstein shocks/springs, bigger sway bars and torsen limited slip. Real world weight, without spare, 2375 with 1/4 tank gas, oil and coolant.

Today's cars are heavier partly because we put little effort into making them light. And, they are bigger.

I drive a Jaguar X-Type (which I think is 3400-3500 pounds) and the Camaro towers over my car.

Yup

168hp? Doesn't qualify.

Have you tried driving a C7 though? I know of at least one C7 owner who is 6'7" tall and fits into it. See this blog post about his purchase:
