OK, I Was at a trade show and was talking to a guy and he was saying that any greases with Calicum Sulfonate are that best and everything else is JUNK..!

guy was very strong in his stance.

Can someone give me a quick education on this if it is not to much trouble.

Love to learn about this stuff.

Thank you,

most grease on the market is lithium complex (70) %, market share ,calcium sulfonate is a good grease and has its capabilities, your Amsoil friend of course is recommending this (it's what they sell) , grease is roughly 85 percent base oil ( with variances) and rest thickeners and anti-wear additives ,depending on the type of thickeners, aluminium complex, polyurea, lithium complex, bentone etc ,etc ,many greases work well as what the application justifies ,heat, moisture, wear rating, bearing speeds heavy loads, compatibility with other lubricants, seals etc., ,,and price dictates the end product with corresponding results by the bearing manufacture recommendations ,,go on the Machinery Lubrication.com web site and type up grease, and of type applications etc,,very broad subject,,the NLGI web site is also a learning tool.

I would only switch to calcium sulfonate grease if you get the old grease completely out, or on a new install. Otherwise it's just prudent to use a compatible grease with what is already there.

But they all have their place, I have lithium complex, calcium sulfonate and bentonite clay greases.

Calcium sulfonate is compatible with the common lithium chassis lubes but adds water resistance, making it a good choice for boat trailer wheel bearings. My experience with calcium sulfonate grease lubricating Class 8 trucks was that it significantly improved the life of steering components. It was in a private fleet of Mack trucks so I could track part life and limit other variables - always the same replacement parts, same intervals, same lube procedures, etc.
Today, I have a Ford F-53 and a boat trailer with a Dexter Easy Lube axle. Both get Kendall SHP CS lube.

That's why I use aluminum complex grease. I won't use any form of lithium grease if I can help it. Of course you have to use "in most cases" what a machine specs if it is specialized. But if the product is using "sweeping generality " grease I use aluminum complex as my go to.
