My parents have acquired a new (slightly used) 2012 Cadillac SRX with the 3.6 in it. This car had 6100 mile on it when it was bought so it is actually used. Of course they never asked if the oil was changed ect....
The oil life monitor is at 90 percent and there is a sticker in the window that has 3/27/13 and 8197 on it. So I assume the oil may have been changed around 5100 give or take and the dealer just upped the mileage 3K. Who knows but that is the best logic I can come up with. The oil is full on the stick but its really dark.
Anyway, the oil cap says 5w30. My plan is to run Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 in it and run it all the way down on the oil monitor. Does this sound safe? I am not sure what the factory fill was on this engine. I would also like ideas for oil filters. I hear Delco recently cheaped out a bit on their filters so if that is true what would be a better safe choice that is easy to buy. Thanks.
Edit- I know this is a DI engine and may be harder on oil and I know GM had a recall sometime ago to recalibrate the oil life monitors on some of these engines. I dont know if this one was part of the recall. So is it safe to run the OLM all the way down? Surely it would be with Mobil EP but would like some reassurance.
