A friend recently got a 2005 Mercury Mariner (V6, 4wd), and I am trying help to figure out if it has a Cabin Air Filter. Does anyone know where it would be located (if it has one)?

If anyone has a photo of the location, that would be perfect.

Thank you.

looks easier than 2001 taurus style I've done several times.

also the freestar is a pita.

I looked a bit more online, and it appears that the filter was an option...at least on Escapes...but the location / provisions for installing the filter may have always been there. So, I have 2 more questions, since I have seen at least one comment on other sites that confused me.

1. Does any know for sure if the Cabin Air Filter was standard (always installed) in Mariners? Or, was it an option, like on the Escape?

2. For anyone that had an Escape/Mariner/Tribute that was found WITHOUT this filter installed, then to install one... was there any extra part/kit required to properly install the filter?

As I said, I have seen at least one comment on other sites that confused me for these 2 points. So, I would appreciate any help to clarify them.

Thanks again.

I've read many, many times on 'Escape City' that on almost all Escape/Tribute/Mariners there is a place for a CAF, but hardly any come with one installed.

No, you don't need any extra parts to install one - they just drop in to the place provided.

Curiosity got the best of me with our '05 Mariner. Opened it up yesterday and as expected there was no cabin filter there. Went to Auto Zone (closest) who stocks STP cabin filters. They did not have one for an '05 Mariner/Escape. Went to AAP and they had a Purolater. So maybe 30 minutes to get the filter and 20 minutes to take apart, drop it and button up. Filter ran $20. The video above was very helpful. Thanks.
