Here is a cut up GM transmission filter from my 6L90 that was run from 150,000 miles to 200,000 miles. The housing is hard brittle plastic so I used a set of garden shears to smash the edges of it to open it up. I found two sheets of filter material measuring about 0.07 inches thick. The inside of the housing had vanes to direct the flow from between the two sheets. The in-flow was between the sheets. What I found was fine metallic particles. This is a real filter and not what some folks call a “ Rock Catcher”. Enjoy.

what did the pan and magnet look like?
I posted this earlier this summer in the transmission fluid change section. The bottom of the pan was clean. The magnet did its job and the fluid was clean. I had been pulling 3 quarts out and replacing them with fresh Dex 6 once a year using a plastic tube and vac through the fill tube. The pan drop required 6 quarts.

Looks about what mine looked like last year when I did a pan drop/filter change on my '11 Silverado with 60k miles.
