Ecogard x4610 used oil filter cut open - 2012 Honda Odyssey 6351 miles

Used on my 2012 Honda Odyssey between 184k and 190k oil was M1 Hybrid 0w20 ran from March 26 to August 26

ADBV was still flexible.
A little bit of sediment in the bottom of the can but not much
Pleats didn't really have much significant in them
These were mostly highway miles (IL to FL and IL to NY and back)as I averaged 25.7 MPG over the entire OCI

You are correct. I did pinch it closed to try and bend it in half as hard as I could and that's the shape that it went back too.

It still matters - this misconception will always live on. Keeps the oil above the filter from draining back down towards the filter. When a filter like that is removed, on most engines a lot of oil will drain out from the engine gallery above the filter if the ADBV is working well.

Mounted base up or down? You'd have to ask them ... but doesn't mean it should be omitted on every engine. Plenty of engines with the filter mounted vertical with base up still have the ADBV, like GMs, Mazda3 (and others) with a Ford built engine, etc.

Most GM's have them in the filter mount. Many aftermarket filters have them because of cross reference to other vehicles.

You're referencing the bypass valve here, not the ADBV. Different functionality. There is no ADBV built into the GM filter mount.

Still doesn't mean they wouldn't drain oil out of the galleries above the filter if they didn't have an ADBV. People have reported instances where they removed the filter and no or very little oil drains out of the engine from the filter mount compared to other filters they've used. I sure wouldn't use a filter on a GM with the filter mounted vertical base up that had no ADBV.

Mazdas reason for omitting the adbv on a vertical mounted filter is they’re not worried about dry starts. I have a lot going on in my life I’m going to follow that logic for vertically installed filters won’t sweat a stiff adbv.

Apparently. You never said if that filter is base up or base down and vertically mounted.

I never seen a Honda or Mazda with top mounted filter like a Subaru. I’m referencing a filter that mounts vertical filter base up

The OP's vehicle is a 2012 Honda Odyssey, not a Sykactive engine. Honda's OEM filter has an ADBV. The Skyactive doesn't represent every engine using a filter that's mounted vertical with the base up. Apparently the oiling system in the Skyactive is designed in a way that doesn't require the filter to have an ADBV because the oiling system design prevents oil draiing without an ADBV, or they don't care much if the oil galleries above the filter drain out some when the engine is off.
