Hi,

After lots of searching around, I found that Baldwin Filters makes a longer filter that will fit my Land Rover V-8.

If you look up the Fram PH16 on the Baldwin site, it recommends a B233, which has an ADBV and an 8-psi bypass valve. The longer version of this filter is the B2, which is what I wanted; same ADBV and same 8-psi byass valve.

I went over to the local truck parts place (an adventure) and they asked me what the B2 was for. They looked up the Land Rover in the book and found the B74 was recommended, which is the exactly the same as the B233 with one exception. The B74 has a 20-psi bypass valve versus the 8-psi bypass valve in the B233.

So, all that for the question: Is there any advantage or danger due to the 8-psi bypass versus the 20-psi bypass?

Thanks!

Other than going into bypass much sooner with the 8 psi one? That is a 2.5X difference in settings, it would have me concerned.

They may or may not go into bypass sooner. That is, the filter with the 20 psi bypass may be of finer filtering potential and will reach higher PSID in the same mileage as the 8 psi bypass filter over the same duration ..but filtering to a lower level. ..or..the 20 psi bypass filter may be spec'd for extended drains.

This is something that I really want to find out..

If the 20 psi bypass filter is spec'd for the engine/make/year ..then I'd have no problem using it.

Totally different application, but I've running a Purolator L10241 on my John Deere tractor (Kohler 17.5hp).

The L10241 has a bypass rating of 12-15 psi. Baldwin specs B7165 (which appears to be the same size as Kohler OEM) but rated at 8psi.

With some reluctance, I switched to the Pulolator L10241 last year with the higher 12-15 psi and I haven't noticed any change in start-up or running noise.

This engine produces only 38 psi max so I would assume a change from 8psi to 12-15 psi would be more significant than your application. I let you know in 10 years how my experiment turns out

I looked up the Wix filter for this truck and they recommend the 51068, which has a bypass valve setting of 8-11 psi.

The Purolator L25195 has a bypass valve set for 14-16 psi.

I'm guessing that I'll be fine with the long Baldwin filters I picked up.

Thanks!

PS - A month ago, I never would have cared about this stuff... after reading this board, I'm obsessed!!!
