Buying things that will last you the rest of your life.

My only investments are in index funds. Everything else tends to depreciate or isn't easily sold/replaced/etc (like a house), so they aren't "investments" more like "buying stuff that I needed".

Well, I hate cheap tools. I have never been sorry I bought quality. That does not necessarily mean the best or most expensive; it has to match the intended use and, of course, budget.

I took a leap going from my old neighborhood to current one in the 1990's. Bought the worst house in town. Worked out well in many regards. I bought it for the right reasons, including the rest of my life.

Investments have been AMZN, MSFT, META, GOOG, NVDA, TSM, Small Cap ETF, a variety of cannabis stocks CGC, ACB, etc. I'll buy AAPL is it holds 168-169, I'll buy TSLA if it holds 161, and then advances and holds 180.

This isn't anything that would last me the rest of my life, but when I budgeted $800 for a laptop instead of $400-500, I became much happier with my purchases, and they lasted a lot longer and haven't required me to dig into the innards to re-apply thermal compound, blah blah blah. Lesson learned, I will not be a bottom feeder for laptops again.
