Burning (?) oil: Long-term issues?

Yeah, if I can wind up with a quart lost in only 2200 miles I'll be happy too. With a 4K/5 month change on conventional oil, the change would come before I have to add a second quart.

Still, it's fun to try with the inexpensive things before we jump into the pricey ones.

I chased it in interest and fun too since I like doing mechanical things.I have just reached my limitations in what I can do and a cost point. The rear main seal will leak until the trans needs to be replaced. I may have a new car by then. Believe or not the valve stem seals were only $14.Spent more on buying an air compressor than anything. Also I almost dropped a valve in the cylinder head

because I didn't have the right spark plug adapter.

That would have been a $$$ mistake. hopefully you find a solution

Also I correct myself about the thin oil statement. I thought I read that in the manual but I went back to make sure and I didn't see it. Maybe I was sleepy or something. But I will say that thin oils, liked castrol edge and havoline performed the same as any other oil in my car as far as burn rate is concerned. I use 5w30 even though 10w30 is recommended because it just gives a faster start-up time period from personal experience.

I ran about a third of a can of the Seafoam aerosol into the PCV tube, with a friend's foot on the gas keeping the revs up. After five minutes' sitting time, I drove the car in 3rd gear, up two steep bridges and with some highway speed. No clouds of white smoke at any point, so maybe I did it wrong, or maybe the white smoke doesn't happen with the PCV system? I'll do it again next week, and keep an eye on the oil level.
