Hey Gang,

Just a quick question - 08 nissan versa 4 speed auto -

When I check the ATF dipstick - there are bubbles in the fluid, but the level is in the proper mark on the dip stick - fluid level is correct, both hot and cold temp readings.

When I check the ATF cold - there are no bubbles -it is at the proper mark as well.

What could be going on here - trans is shifting fine - so far>:(
Thanks
Nick

I never check cold because you can't verify correct level. But I will to see if I get the same results. Its definitely normal warm, your running at the time churning up the fluid. Seems to be more bubbles on old fluid, less bubbles on new fluid. I'm going to check this now. Cars cold.

The classic answer is: fluid level is too high or too low.
If your sequence procedure for checking the level is correct (shifting gears, etc. etc.) and the color is correct (red or green but no black), the bubbles are a mystery.

Sounds like the o ring/gasket for the filter is leaking and sucking air.

Yep, cold too. Not as much, but they are still there. The old Camry has always had bubbles checking the fluid running. Its at 258k now so I say its normal don't worry about it. I would change the fluid if its excessive. I get less when the fluid is newer.

Note: I assume its a highly friction modified fluid. Thats where I see the bubbles, never used to see them on older dex III fluids.

Ive noticed this on most any vehicle Ive checked on that does not have a straight-in dipstick.

Hi guys,
Thanks - the fluid level is correct and has about 20,000kms on it - not much at all - the trans has about 90% Maxlife ATF in it - It has had 7 drain and fills since I bought it -.

Interesting note - the colour of the fluid is darker red when cold and a much lighter red when warm/hot. Other than that smells/looks brand new - it kind of is>:)

I was going to wait to do another drain/fill - but I might just do it this week.

Strange?

Thanks for the info gang -

Yes, it is strange that you feel the need to drain/fill so often.
