What all are you going to replace and at approx what cost, if you can share?Got assigned to this today. 98 jag,102000 miles. Did a leak down and the valves seem to be ok.
Not my choice lol. Oh and orange silicone on the other headDo Not get involved in that POS, Some hack's already been in there judging by the blue RTV & the dozen worm drive clamps.
Cars a POS. I heard they want to do just the 1 chain and the tensioner but will know more tomorrow. What all are you going to replace and at approx what cost, if you can share?
When you were a mech in a shop you didn't own did you refuse work?Do Not get involved in that POS, Some hack's already been in there judging by the blue RTV & the dozen worm drive clamps.
This 1998 with 106k miles same issue.
It's a shame, seem like very nice cars. Funny both Jags timing chain failed around 105k miles. Wonder if a thicker oil, changed every 2k miles would have made a meaningful difference?I thought of exactly this video when I read the thread title. lol
Hate to say it, but 98 Jag in Apple Valley kinda explains it all...Do Not get involved in that POS, Some hack's already been in there judging by the blue RTV & the dozen worm drive clamps.
Interesting that he doesn't do the leak-down to see if the valves contacted or not like the OP did.I thought of exactly this video when I read the thread title. lol
You have that right in California as a mechanic. When you were a mech in a shop you didn't own did you refuse work?
Learning experience Chris. Do the best you can and have someone sign off on your work for when it comes back.
They were known for chain guide issues. I had a 2000 that apparently had been replaced with the revision before I owned it according to repair records so it didn’t come up for me but I always had that thought going into buying one. It's a shame, seem like very nice cars. My 2007 F350 with the 3V 5.4 went 200k with zero signs of timing chain related issues. I credit (speculative) this to using high quality oil of a higher grade, and very frequent oil change intervals.
Your 2000 would have had a different set of issues than a 5.4 3V.They were known for chain guide issues. I had a 2000 that apparently had been replaced with the revision before I owned it according to repair records so it didn’t come up for me but I always had that thought going into buying one.
I was referring to the Jag 4.0.Your 2000 would have had a different set of issues than a 5.4 3V.
