Got assigned to this today. 98 jag,102000 miles. Did a leak down and the valves seem to be ok.

Do Not get involved in that POS, Some hack's already been in there judging by the blue RTV & the dozen worm drive clamps.
When you were a mech in a shop you didn't own did you refuse work?

Learning experience Chris. Do the best you can and have someone sign off on your work for when it comes back.

I thought of exactly this video when I read the thread title. lol
It's a shame, seem like very nice cars. Funny both Jags timing chain failed around 105k miles. Wonder if a thicker oil, changed every 2k miles would have made a meaningful difference?

My 2007 F350 with the 3V 5.4 went 200k with zero signs of timing chain related issues. I credit (speculative) this to using high quality oil of a higher grade, and very frequent oil change intervals.

Sounds kind of like the V8 Taurus SHO that the cam swedging would let loose on the cam chain gears trashing the motor and Ford did not have parts for. And denied warranties until enough happened they couldn't. Some failed before they left the lot.

Yamaha built the heads and assembled the engine with a Ford block but I suspect the swedging was Ford's idea.

They were known for chain guide issues. I had a 2000 that apparently had been replaced with the revision before I owned it according to repair records so it didn’t come up for me but I always had that thought going into buying one.

Your 2000 would have had a different set of issues than a 5.4 3V.
