Good morning, in need of advice. I have a97 ford expedition with a broken spark plug ( broke at the base with metal threads in head) with a broken extractor in the plug as well that does not come out. They sell a tool Lisle which works on 3 valve not the 2 valve model. I am trying what I can to not remove the head since this would be a costly repair. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

What is the broken extractor? A Difficult-Out?

A picture would really help.

Step 1 - get the extractor out of there. But I don’t see how you can do much more than drive your “tools” shown above onto it. Drilling has about a 0% chance of working in that deep of a hole with a hardened steel extractor, and you have about a 99% chance of damaging the head.

But even if you get that out, you still have a stuck plug, and it only has three threads.

Safest course of action - pull the head and take it to a machine shop. Let them weld a nut on it and carefully remove it. If they damage the threads, and they might, even with care, they can install one of those kits to repair the threads.
