Broke mine pretty badly in a low speed bicycle crash on Monday. So far, pretty miserable. Anyone have any experience? Hoping for good news at the next appointment.

You have my sincere empathy.
That must hurt really badly.
Hope that some non-surgical option exists.
I can't see one, but then I'm not an orthopedic surgeon.

Yikes, looks like displaced comminuted break. Could lead to ORIF or open reduction internal fixation, i.e. plate and screw. Or hopefully things fall back into place.

Never had a clavicular Fx but a torn labrum once from a fall. Shoulder injuries hurt plenty and need lots of time to mend. Even then the giddyap on your fastball is never the same.

Wish you well.

It's an important stretch of real estate thru there. Subclavian artery and vein run parallel right through that region feeding the entire arm and part of chest. Luckily those jagged ends stayed away.

They will likely put you in a sling, which pushes the bones together to heal. Option is, surgery. Personally, I like this better, but most of the time the doctors/medical group, will force the non surgery option.

On a lighter note, the year Aaron Rodgers from our Packers broke his collar bone, i made a Halloween costume buy getting one of his jerseys and glued a big old broken chicken drum stick bone right where the collar bone would lay. Smeared a little red grease in the area for affect. Got lots of thumbs up.

Yep, been in a sling since the hospital visit. It's unbearable to get around without it.

I have a metal plate holding mine together with 6 screws along with replaced shoulder joint. Getting the plate is a lot less painful than running around with the break but it does have some drawbacks. I hope you get well.

Broke mine playing beach volleyball. It hurt a lot. Saw a doctor at the Sports Medicine Clinic on day 3 with a large bruise on my upper chest. "Where are your x-rays?" he asked. "You're the first person I've seen about it" I told him.

In my case the ends of the bone were well opposed. They put me in a sling but it felt better without so I didn't wear it after the first day. I had no further treatment and had a perfect result.

They may be waiting to see how it looks on a repeat x-ray. Bones will heal in what is called bayonet opposition (ie overlapping) but there may be a residual deformity.
