Question: Which viscosity of engine oil is preferred to oil these filters ?

lawn mowers run so low to the ground(too much dirt and dust), and normally have small holes in the filter basket, those filter basket holes clog up too quickly.

The lighter oil the better, I stopped using oil and just use wd40, not seen anything getting through. and easy to clean and lube with the same product, and basket holes don't clog from using heavy oil.

If the oil is too thick, it will block the flow of air through the filter.
If the oil is too thin, it will not collect the dust.

It's a brilliantly simple question.

Nonsense. The type of oil you use makes absolutely no difference.

I can tell you what not to use.
Do not use dirt bike air filter oil ... wayyyyy to tacky/thick and clogs within a couple of uses.
Currently I'm using just 10w30 oil.

I can't imagine what effect the range of viscosity of common motor oils would have on the oiled foam's ability to either block air flow or retain solid particles. Soak the foam in any clean motor oil and wring it dry and it will do its job.

Really??? I've NEVER seen any sign of dust on the back side of element when used dry... I wash 'em out, squeeze out the water, install and go...

I have a pisy old Tecumseh on a yard vac I use three or four times a year that primer is bad, so I tossed the air cleaner... Makes it easy to use starter fluid, brake clean, etc to get it fire off...
