I am looking at a Husqvarna with this engine. I am partial to Kohler Command but there is only 1 option and it is the Briggs 28 professional engine. Will it last and be as dependable as my beloved Kohlers? Anyone with any experience on these engines. I appreciate your help.

I had a Briggs and when it got about 40 hours on it, it blew up and apperently it wasn't under warranty anymore so I would never buy another Briggs ever again, I acutally went back to my old riding lawnmower that has a Kohler in it and it still runs great.

Is the Briggs 28 a Vanguard engine? If so, it's made by Mitsubishi or Subaru and should be as good as any other premium grade small engine. Vanguards are very good engines.

Nothing wrong with Kawasaki engines either. I have one that's eight years old with 400 hours on it and it's been an excellent engine.

It is not a Vanguard engine. Vanguard engines are very good. I had one several years back.

The Briggs 28 hp Professional engine is a V-Twin with overhead valves - it also has electronic fuel management and does not have a choke. After looking at the Briggs web site it looks like this Professional motor may be a beefed up ELS engine. How wonder many hours are they good for?
Thanks.

1st place..goes to kawasaki, 2nd Briggs Vanguard (rumor is theyre being phased out), and 3rd Honda......thats the lenght of my list

Any engine on this class of machine should outlive the machine itself with reasonable care, regardless of engine manufacturer. The quality of the transaxle and related powertrain, cutting deck and steering components is 95% of the battle.

jtk, he didnt specify the model of the husqvarna, he well indeed maybe talking about a "cheapy" from lowes, or he could be talking about a full blown commercial machiene

I am sorry guys. It is the new Husqvarna MZ 6128. Is has the hydrogear 3400 drives and a 61" fabricated deck. It also has a heavy duty frame with greasable deck spindles. I really like the mower priced at $5,000 but am not sure on the new Briggs and Stratton Professional engines.

My 2002 Husqvarna with the 15 h.p. Kawasaki engine has around 400 hours on it. I'm sure the chassis/components are AYP. Nonetheless, with proper maintenance, I'm sure there are many more years left in it. The engine is a gem though and will probably outlast the rest of the machine.

you being a fan of the command, im sure any modern briggs would do just fine. i agree w/boraticus

sweezy that's a real nice machine. From what I understand the Hydrogear ZT-3400's are basically the ZT-2800's with larger displacement pumps.
