Brick Shower Soap vs Body Wash

Here up north, winter means dry skin for a lot of people, and that includes me. I find that if I use body wash with good amount of lotion, it helps with dry skin and I often don't need to apply lotion separately.

Yes, many of those body washes are scented too heavily. I recently found Nivea Creme Moisture which is only lightly scented and moisturizes better than Dove.

Best value in bar soap is the original Lever 2000. Everyone should try it. Only time I switch over to body wash is when temps outdoors dips between December and March (four coldest months), thus the furnace is roaring and things become dry inside the home.

When that occurs, we switch to Dove Winter Care Body Wash.

Dr. Bronner's in bar or liquid. It smells like the one thing on the label, not like a flower shop or Yankee Candle store.

Same here . . . and that green soap that Irish people used to cut into on television is available for $1 for a 2/pack at Dollar Tree. That, plus a good shampoo, double-edge razor blades in an old Gillette adjustable razor, and basic shave cream, covers just about everything.

Oh, and Clubman Special Reserve aftershave/cologne, of course. I'll bet that's the cologne The Most Interesting Man in the World wears.

SOAP....an ancient subject

Blessed with soft water so everything rinses well and uses LESS WATER.

HATE artificial body scents of most every kind. I do like the REAL THING (if you know what I mean).

BUT, after trying AXE body wash after the hot yoga I practice I have to say it is quite agreeable.

Want to hear something interesting (at least to my situation)? Like most BITOGers I won't waste anything.
I errantly opened a lavender scented cake/bar/brick of soap and found that it, combined with my revolting body scent to a net zero result. I was floored.

I have very similar taste. I use Irish Spring bar soap for years now. I just feel cleaner versus the body wash. I do shave in the shower where I do use bodywash instead of shaving cream. The steam gives me a closer shave. I touch up my sideburns etc. when I am out. In terms of deodorant, I have been using original speedstick since I was about 15. I always found antiperspirants to make me sweat more. Never any issues with the old school stuff. I also prefer groom and clean versus brylcreem and clubman is one of the best aftershaves out there. Clean and classic male scent.

Me too. I started using it last year (Almond) and it has a pleasant smell in the shower, but leaves little to no residual scent. Also, it just feels cleaner - no sense of film or wax that common bar soaps leave behind.

It took me awhile to find my favorite body wash, now the only thing I use is dial Antibacterial body wash spring water

Leaves me feeling clean and the scent isn't too powerful

Used Irish Spring for years with a washcloth, does the job. Tried a body wash a time or two but never liked it.

A bar of Ivory is all I use. Pretty much for the last ten years.

Bars are way cheaper and the only thing I would use. The liquid stuff is a waste of money?

Dr Bronners tea tree soap, liquid.

Works much better than bars and leaves no residue on skin or in shower. They say dillute before using it, but I use it full strength.

Yep. I'll do Irish Spring body wash once in a while, but it's hard to beat the bars.

Bar soap just makes sense. Seems the first ingredient for many body washes is water.

So you are paying for a bottle of soapy water. Why not just buy soap?

I've used Dr Squatch Pine Tar,
I liked it, was free when I was a member of Wetshaveclub.

Duke Cannon soap was pretty good, target for 4.99$ a block, lasted forever

I do enjoy little festivals and such in town since I can get handmade soap cheap.

Last body wash I used was everymanjack brand from target, was good, I just don't like smelling like soap, if I want to smell, I have cologne or aftershave for that.

Dr. Bronner's only takes a couple drops, it is VERY concentrated. A bottle lasts a long time, compared to the rate my kids go thru Axe body wash. (I'd say 5-7 times as long)
