Brand new car with same oil for 5 years?? Go for it or no?

The oil question isn’t a big concern.

That they can’t or won’t explain the reason the car sat so long is a big concern. Without an honest answer to your legitimate question one can’t make a fully informed decision.

Is the car being sold as “Certified” with a VW extended warranty (through VW, not aftermarket)? If not it should be, in my opinion, to put a price on their lack of information, and eliminate any concerns about the lack of use.

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a used VW Golf 1.0 TSi 2018 from a private person. He bought it last year from a VW dealer with 1300km. Now the car has 10K km. I also requested a CarVertical report for the car, and I found 2 records for the odometer. 270 km on 2022 and 1300 km on 2023.

Although I don't get how the dealer can have a car for 5 years with 1000 km (I will contact the dealer and will ask), I strongly believe that the engine had the same oil, until 2023 where the dealer did a service before sold it, even if the dealer may tell me that oil changes had been regurarly done.

If I'm right and the car had the same engine oil for 4-5 years, what could cause to the engine running for 1300km with that oil? Excessive wear maybe? Is there any way to find out?

It’s probably fine, but I would use the minimal oil changes as your bargaining chip to get the price down to a more attractive cost for you. That way you either get a price you’re very pleased with or a good explanation on the oil change history and records. Good luck but I would not be concerned about the minimal oil changes.

So far and after 4000km all good, except an infotainment system problem. Rarely, the screen turns on sometimes after I lock the car by itself...you need to reset the screen. But if you don't see it, next morning the battery will probably be drained....
