I picked this car up about 4 weeks ago and have been fairly happy with it, especially coming from an 11 year old Mazda 3. The toys and tech on it still leave me giddy because my Mazda had none of it. (Paddle shifters are useless though.)

There are two main issues with the car and yes, I'm trying to find some time to take the car into the dealership.

1. When fueling the vehicle, the gas pump handle shuts off every 3 seconds as if the tank was full. When the flow of gas starts, you instantly hear the fuel backing up in the filler tube and the handle cuts off. Total pain in the you know what to put any gas in it. I've tried numerous different stations and pumps but it happens every time.

2. This one has me perplexed. After driving and the engine is warmed up, about 5-10 minutes after I shut the car off I hear this waterfall sound coming from behind the dash for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. I also get this vague plasticky smell at the same time. The waterfall sound is fairly loud and I deduce it has to be coolant....but what is going on?

Any ideas on what is causing these anomalies?

I'm assuming that this is the 1.5l Ecoboost?
For issue #2, I'm wondering if coolant is being sent past the turbo to help it cool down after shutoff. I know that early turbos that were only oil-cooled could really cook oil up good if they were shut down hot. I also know that the turbo in my car has coolant running to it as well as oil and there is supposed to be some scheme to force some coolant to circulate through it after shutdown, but I don't hear anything after turning the car off and don't know how the system really works.

Correct.

It will circulate coolant - either by convection current or by electric water pump (not sure if the 1.5 has a supplementary electric pump) after you shut the engine down.

I would bring it back to the dealer and have them check if the vent lines are plugged.

You may be right. There are two water pumps. The heater water pump has an electrical connection on it.

Thank you all for your help. Gonna try and get her in next week to take care of Issue #1.

For Issue #2, it almost sounds like there is air in the cooling system for it to make that much noise. I'll still mention it to the dealer.
