Kleenex for any type of tissue.
Band-aid for any adhesive bandage.

BTW, I though all Texans referred to any type of carbonated beverage as Coke?

Other then Thermos I don't here any of those around here. Common ones I see:

Kleenex (facial tissue)
Sawzall (reciprocating saw)
Crescent Wrench (adjustable wrench)

ziploc bag
tupperware... er... tupperware.

"Velcro" for any hook-and-loop fastener.

"Perspex" for "Plexiglass" and vice versa (depending on where you live).

"Nylon" for "Perlon" and vice versa (depending on where you live).

"Walkman" for any portable mini stereo.

"Colt" for any revolver (depending on where you live).

"Winchester" for any action lever repeating rifle (depending on where you live).

"Swiss Army Knife" for any red or black pocket knife with multiple gadgets.

yes, I think it also is used that way across the South, and it's (small c) coke.

These are the reasons that companies are so protective of their tradenames and copyrights. The government CAN claim public domain of a name or trademark if it is commonly used as a generic term, and the company does not use "reasonable effort" to protect it.

Kleenex and Xerox are 2 that supposedly have been threatened with "appropriation".

I'm not sure how this would work and seems a bit Orwellian to me, but that's what I've heard.

some ones I don't see listed so far:

Molly bolt
Keensert
post-its
super glue
marks-a-lot
e-z-out

"Krazy Glue" for any C/A adhesive

"Sharpie" for any marker

"JB Weld" (even used as verb!) for any epoxy resin

I've heard people refer to small planes invariably as "Cessna."

Uhh, I thought that was what they were?

Original full name, "Dempsey Dumpster", so it's reasonable guess that there is or was a Dempsey company that owns the Dumpster name.
