Brake Light Off...Turn Signal On

I believe so, but only if they share the same bulb.

A few years ago it was more common for cars to have a separate amber rear turn signal as part of the tail-light assembly. This was independent of the brake light of course. I think the move back to a common brake light/turn signal has been a step backwards.

I too prefer the separate amber turning signal.

To me the absence of an amber signal light is a deal breaker! It ought to be viewed as a safety thing.
Have not bought a car without an amber signal light since 1970.

Front of vehicle lamp goes off too, when the turn signal goes on

My dash cluster has to be removed to fix the warning brake light that is stuck in the on position. I have to take the cluster apart, including the indicator needles, to get to the board. There are 2 soldier terminals that are cracked and I have to soldier them.
I have done it on my friends 05 F-150 a few years ago. It's a PITA, and I thought I would never have to do it to mine.

Aren't all cars required to have the 3rd brake light now? I'd have to check to be certain but I think my 3rd brake light stays on when signaling.

We have a special rule that allows the American stop light system.

10. On vehicles of American origin, the stop lamp and direction indicator lamp function may be combined in one lamp.

the modern LED lghts seem to turn off the brake light to allow the indicator, at the front of many new cars they will turn off a headlight or foglight to flash the front indicator.

I prefer dedicated bulbs for every circuit, less ambiguous and does not look like you have an earthing problem. all the modern ones look like they have bad earths!

Pretty sure that's a daytime running light (DRL) that turns off with a turn signal. I'm in the opposite camp of the poster above, if it's a truck or van that I tow with, I would rather NOT have the separate amber turn signal, because it requires a (somewhat) failure-prone module to combine the turn signal with the brake light function.

seperate brake light and indicator light only require seperate bulbs - no modules are needed at all. just voltage down a wirre to a bulb. having a system which automatically turns lights off and on again based on what other lights are dong takes more monitoring and more control and more lines of code, which is more complex and more prone to failure.
seperate lamps just need volts down a wire.

In my experience , the brake light goes off when the turn signal operates because it's getting current from two sources, brake switch and turn signal switch, and they cancel each other turning off the light when the turn signal "blinks".. Your front side marker light does the same thing, if it's wired to the turn signal switch, when it's on and the turn signal is activated . I have done this modification on many cars for better visibility that you are turning.
