I've just purchased several boxes of clearanced out 12 qt. M1 HM box oil from Walmart. I've seen a few of these boxes leak, and it's not clear if they were damaged in shipping/storage or if they are inherently less long-term storage friendly. I'm not sure of the thickness of the plastic bags holding the oil or if they have seams, etc. I may opt to transfer them into 5 qt. jugs. A bit of a hassle.

As for using these, I've never dispensed one. They are fairly large and unmanageable over a engine fill spout. I'm guessing the best trick is to fill a 5qt jug with measurement windows and then fill the car from a 5 qt. jug? Any other suggestions or tips and tricks?

I have used both M1 and SuperTech oil boxes and never had an issue with either leaking. M1 boxes are easier to work with IMO primarily because the spout is easier to remove and put back on securely for refilling with used oil. A 5 quart oil jug with markings on the side is what I use to decant. My local Walmart recently marked down 50% for me (because I asked) a box of M1 0W-40 because the box seam had split.
