Every car I've ever driven until now was hinged at the top, this one has the hinge at the bottom. It's slightly frustrating, because I previously would drive with only an inch or two of my foot on the very bottom of the pedal. I can't do that here, I have to use my whole foot practically, and it's just not what I prefer.

I may have missed a post. Did the dealer change the pedal after the test drive or after you drove off the lot?

On the test drive, it didn't bother me much, but after a few weeks with it, it was not for me.

Basically.

This whole thread is a big sad story of impulse-buying, not being happy with what you have, being impatient and not waiting till one's finances are stable, too little research, living beyond one's means and inexperience.

Hope NickR somehow gets through this, and learns a lot from the whole thing. G' luck.

Won't lie, you are right.

Out of all that could be said, it takes a big man to come on here and own up to it so freely.

Reading the start of the thread, I think most original posters wouldn't come back to share the [current] outcome.

^^^ I agree - accepting what has happened is the 1st step to doing it better next time. NickR did fine there.

NickR: you will be okay, man. It's easier for us to advice others than go through something like this, and I am guilty of it too, at times.

Cheers to you Nick for that...

It's cool man, it's a great way to learn (the hard way)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure on what I'm gonna do. After I get this taken care of, and it's probably gonna be around tax return time, I'm going to look into getting a used Cavalier. Yes, I said it. I will probably look for a clean, 03-05 cavalier with fairly low miles. They are cheap, I'm familiar with the car, and I know that I like how they drive. Go ahead and laugh it up y'all.

A Cavalier? I knew you liked those things...

Good choice for a beater, and of course I could tell you that...

I also saw my neighbor's car being repo'd several years ago. It was not a pretty sight. I was about ready to call the cops as I kept seeing this shady-looking tow truck circle our neighborhood several time. He was waiting for the moment the garage door came open. When it did, he had their Bimmer hooked up in < 1 min.

Anyway...best of luck Nick.

I live in a high risk area (MI) were they also tend to hide the cars....so here they do.

Lesson learned my friend. I've been in a similar situation in the past. When I bought my Ranger back in '09, I really shouldn't have. Barely could make the payments, and had to pick up hours sometimes just to make it.

On the plus side, it helped my credit, but I wish I would've just replaced the engine in the Corolla I had at the time.

I say get your life where you want it to be, regardless of how long it takes. Then, you can make big decisions like buying a new car.

Good luck Nick, takes a lot to admit that you made a mistake, so kudos to you in that regard brother!

Nick isn't going to buy no cavalier. he's had a taste of the good stuff. new focus, new cruze, and new mazda. it's hard to go back to driving an old car.

It's amazing what you'll you'll take after a hard learned lesson. He started with one, so why not?

I agree; cheap and durable to drive year round while he gets his savings in order. With some good snow tires it'll be great even in winter and no worries about the salt or sand or whatever they use in N.Y.

Funny, the small steering wheels on cars these days annoy me to no end as well. I guess it's part of the car-buying culture today that every vehicle, regardless of its true purpose, should feel like a go-kart from the drivers seat.

Kids? Who said I'm having kids? At least not in the immediate future or in the future I have planned, for a while anyway.

The different ways I hold the steering wheel, a larger wheel makes it more comfortable, and the seating position affects it as well. On long drives or on the highway I generally like to hold it from the bottom, or the bottom right, with my wrist/arm resting on my leg. Or with both hands on the inside resting on the bottom spoke(s). And with a smaller wheel that's higher up it's harder. So in reality, it's all personal preference. But larger wheels also can give you more control imo, depending the level of assist. I just prefer it myself.
