So I ditched my old cathode monitor and bought a new Acer 19" but the images appear too wide (my wife complains see looks too fat) I have played with the resolution in the control panel settings (I'm at 1440x900 right now) but no matter what I set things to, it seems to make no difference!!
Pale Blues seem very hard to see, I really have to squint to see the " Forums" General and off topic" etc. at the top of this page. What can i do. I feel a little let down! :-(

Put the resolution at monitor max. LCDs are "built" for a specific resolution and look disgusting at others because it has to stretch the image.

How do I do that? I have windows XP, I adjust the resolution at the control panel, but it seems to have no effect (except with the icons on the Desk Top)

No Idea! how can I tell? Computer tower is two years old, if that means anything?

You can ONLY use an LCD at it's native resolution or you will either not fill the screen, or it will stretch and distort to fill the screen.

Go into the device manager and check what video you have.

Start-control panel-system property-hardware-device manager.

You are using the right resolution, people must remember that different is not bad. Find an image of a perfect circle and if the circle is oval, your resolution is incorrect.

I have DDC/CI ON, contrast at 50, brightness at 100, focus 84, clock 50, Colours set to "warm" and my Acer X193W is running fine on PC-BSD 8 and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with an nVidia 7600GT.

OK Thanks Guys, it seems a lot better now. The Desktop photo is still W I D E but other images (on the Internet or from file) appear OK

However I did not really try anything new, it just seemed to work this time??

For what it's worth, I have an Acer P201W monitor set at 1680x1050 resolution and it's running on an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE video card.
My desktop is over 5 years old and is running Windows XP SP2 Home edition.

That is the monitors' native resolution and everything looks fine except for Microsoft Train Simulator as the images are stretched towards the sides of the display.

Any other resolution other than what is native results in distorted images.

Do not look at the picture, it is probably in 4:3 format and the screen stretches it to fit the whole screen, go to your display settings and choose center, the picture will be normal, but you will have empty space on the sides.
