I found my bottle jack in the horse trailer tipped over and the relief screw was turned way out (almost falling out) with the oil drained all over. What is the best way to refill?,,, It does not have any refill/drain/check screw on the side like some do.

That would be the way. Try to clean the area around the fill hole before removing the plug.

It should be fairly easy to find where to refill it. Usually, it will be a fairly large screw in a location with no other obvious purpose. If you still have the owners manual, it probably shows the location.

Use Hydraulic Jack oil found at any automotive parts store such as CarQuest, NAPA, Advance. etc. It is very cheap (less than $2 for a bottle that can refill two nearly empty jacks).

Sure beats buying a new jack. I wonder how many people have thrown out perfectly good jacks that just needed a bit of oil.

Isn't hydraulic oil also mineral oil based? The rubber inside jacks must be oil-resistant.

FWIW I have always used ATF to top up jacks and haven't had any problems.

Every time my hydraulic jack gets low on oil, there never seems to be any hydrualic jack oil laying around. So I just top if off with atf, motor oil, hydraulic oil... whatever is in reach at the shop. Except that the rubber plug leaks if you lay it down while turned the wrong way (which is why I have to top off once in a while), the thing works fine. I've had it for about a decade and use it HARD. Bought it at a flea market. No idea how old it is.
