Bosch OE Equivalent Filter

I was looking at oil filters at Rock Auto and came across one that simply said Bosch, the part number and then the words OE Equivalent instead of Premium. So I figured I would buy one cut it open to see what it was built like. The box says Premium Oil Filter but does not say Filtech filtration system and says OE fit, application specific design instead. No mention of efficiency rating. It is also Made in Germany and not made here in the USA.

That OEM is a Mann built unit. It's pretty good filter, IMO.
Sturdy, good apparent flow and filtration in my testing of one model. Also seem to hold up well in long OCIs in the few I've seen cut open after use.
(Also, most VW OEMs look like that there German Bosch baseplate.)

A lot of Mann filters you buy over here are just Purolator (Classic?) now with a Mann sticker on it.

What was the app for that filter? Bosch are now mostly OEM purolator gold with filtech media and silicone adbv.

Asking me? The Purolator Mann I have is for a 2000 F-150, 4.2L V-6. The VW Mann is for a 1999 New Beetle with the naturally aspirated gas engine (1.7L?) and the Mann Mann I tested was for a 1973-1979 VW Transporter (Bus).

I own none of these cars but use the first one as an oversized filter for my truck, and the VW OEM for my '69 VW Bus (retrofitted with a remote filter as it has no filter originally).
The 1973 on Bus size I tested on request for friends of mine in the classic VW community.

The German Bosch looks exactly like the Mann filters I've bought for red block Volvos for years. Bosch and Mann bought Purolator's automotive filter business as a joint venture deal a few years ago, so it seems like the companies are pretty tight. The other Bosch looks a lot like a US made Purolator Pure One.

It was for a 1996 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.5L. I am sure it will work for others but that was the vehicle I was looking for filters under.

He would, surprised he hasn't. I had no clue where it was made before I bought it.
