Boating in Lewes/Rehoboth DE area

As part of moving to DE I am looking for a new marina to keep my boat. It's a 24' Cruiser with an I/O. I am told the two bays near Dewey Beach and Rehoboth are too shallow at about 6' deep. So thinking of Indian River marina or in Lewes along the canal.

No experience with salt water cooling my engine either.

Things I should consider or know about?

A friend of mine was moving to Florida from NY and planned on bringing his I/O equipped boat with him.
Another friend of ours who already had moved to Florida and was heavily into boating advised him to sell the I/O
and buy an outboard propelled boat due to the salt water. My more knowledgeable friend said that unless you
are constantly flushing the I/O (which is hard to do unless you take it in and out of the water after each use) the I/O's
life is shortened considerably by the corrosion.

PS: I am only repeating this story as I am not a boating guy....I had an 18' I/O on a fresh water lake back in the 80's but
nothing since....

Its certainly something I will think about. My boat is raw water cooled.

I can buy a conversion kit to convert only the engine or full cooling to FWC for $1000 to $1800.
