Use a wrench to tighten the nut with moderate force to seat everything, then back it off.

While the wheel is rotating of course. You don't want to brinell the races. I never have had a boat or trailer but think the boat axle spindles are probably like the older rear wheel drive vehicle front spindles. Seals, bearings and races are standardized dimensions. If you have installed component correctly, you shouldn't have a problem. Tighten the spindle nut up as you rotate the wheel and then back it off until you have a slight or no end shake.Use the largest cotter pin that will fit the hole. I think the last wheel bearings I packed were on a 84 Honda Accord. The adjustment was made using a beam type inch pound torque wrench as the wheel was rotated. Something like eight inch pound preload. The next Honda I purchased had sealed bearing assemblies that bolted on. Very pricey. $$$

Found out the new grease seal diameter is just a tiny bit too small. Tried fitting it on the spindle and wouldn't budge greased up with all my effort. Glad it's not me but unfortunately bought $40 worth of the seals. Same part numbers but different diameter

I'll be calling champion trailers to see what they can do for me. Renting a place on the water next week and would love to get this finished.
