BMW M57 under the valve cover

Took these two pics today while replacing the valve cover gasket. Cars done 204,000 miles, I have service history for the first 160,000 miles of oil changes every 10-15,000 miles but no history for the last 40,000 until I bought it and did a oil change using Shell 504/507 0w30 oil with a Mann filter. That was about 500 miles ago.

Honestly doesn't look half bad for the intervals and length of doing them. Cams looks alright too for 204k.

Impressive, frankly. seems typical for todays newer vehicles, but I recall growing up with plenty of engines that didn’t look anywhere near that good at half the mileage.

Yes UK car so in theory can go 15,000 miles on a oil change
