BMW M3 the original, oil recommendation

We run HPDE's a few times almost every year at various tracks around the country.

I have run everything from 0w30 Amsoil to 50 weight Mobil 1.

Currently I like the Dominator line from Amsoil for the track, and it has 3 weights to choose from.

Mobil 1 15w-50 also exceeds most folks needs even racing hard.

But I don't think you can assert imaging rights over someone else's published work. BMW may not like that, either.

Just to set the record straight, I would NOT recommend AEL 5w30 LOW SAPS EURO oil for a 1988 M3.

Amsoil EFM 5W-40 would be a starting point. Then we could go from there.

Lots of these engines being run on 10w60 in Germany that's why i said contact someone who professionally builds these engines daily and races them using tuning parts like he is using.

The 10w60 does not seem to heavy for this S14 engine the way he is running it but then again i don't build them and race them.
If they say Xw40 or Xw50 is good enough then i would go with what they say because they do.

Best i can make out over -15°C, 15w40 was OEM German spec. The RS 10w60 came out in IIRC 91 which is the first time i can remember seeing it on the shelf.
This was after his car was built but many older M3 owners went right to it with great success.

Germans do tend to use the TWS 10W-60 in these engines much more so than we do in America, I know a guy that built a 2.7L version of this motor and he uses TWS 10W-60, has worked fine for him and he does a number of lapping days at the Ring.

In the States, I think the majority of people use Mobil 1 15W-50.

I am going to give Mobil 1 0W-40 (adding a quart of the OW-50 Racing) a try.

Anyway - great car the M3 E30, one of my all life dream-cars. Unfortunately they are becaming so expensive in the last years.
