BMW i8 rubber suggestions

So what are your size suggestions rooflessVW?
Wheels are supposedly:
Front 20″ diameter, 7.5″ width; rear 20″ diameter, 8.5″ width

Please note that it has this kind of powertrain:

"A turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine produces 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque and drives the rear wheels. An electric motor that peaks at 141 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque drives the front wheels."

I am afraid that it may not like too much difference in tire diameter front/rear from OE sizing.

PS According to TR the tires F?R are almost identical circumference wise.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...oYear=2019&autoModel=i8 Roadster&autoModClar=

215/45R20 rev per mile 754 over all diameter 27.6"
245/40R20 rev per mile 752 over all diameter 27.7"

There is another way to get to lesser performance tires.
Dump optional 20" wheels and go with 19", at least according to TR.
These are optional sizes:
  • 19" 235/45-19
  • Front Size:19" 235/45-19 Rear Size:19" 245/45-19

And new wheels for an i8 are probably worth 3 sets of tires.

OP, I would recommend just getting the MP4S, they will last significantly longer than the P0 or S001.

I posted on the first page my size suggestion. 235/40 or 245/40 for the front and 275/35 for the rear.

Not really ideal tire sizes for the width of the rims. May cause uneven tire wear. I run similar tire sizes on my 1er, but my rims are 1" wider both front and rear. Are his 7.5" front and 8.5" rear approved rim width for those tire sizes?

235/40R20

Rim Width Range (Min/Max)8.00-9.50
759 revs per mile

245/40R20

Rim Width Range (Min/Max)8.00-9.50
750 revs per mile

275/35R20

Rim Width Range (Min/Max)9.00-11.00
755 revs per mile

So overall diameter they are quite good match but rims are just a little (.5") too narrow.
But Pilot Sport AS 4 are available if one is willing for pinched (opposite of stretch) look.

Anyway, in your world, even a Nissan Versa should come with ceramic brakes and wide tires like exotic cars do so they would have maximum braking power? Even if they add $8000 to the sticker price?

How do you know 'my world' when you are not even willing to understand what I was trying to say?
I'd suggest you stop assuming what I didn't say, polemics don't help here.
Many Nissan Versa owners might be on a tighter budget, which I do understand. To maintain mobility
they might choose tires based on, wait... a tighter budget. However we're talking about a very different
task here, which you are seemingly overlooking. That said, ceramic brakes don't make for shorter braking
distances, while tires do.

Exactly. Don’t go outside recommend rim widths. Will get uneven tire wear (shortening tire life) and will handle terribly.

He wants something cheaper and comparable....These come as stock tires on the new mid engine base model Corvettes and get better wear.
win win

OP mentioned she was a widower, why not ask him. And why do some people buy 700 hp muscle cars and never go 10 mph over the speed limit? They certainly don't need the high performance tires the cars originally came with. The lady already owns the car and likes it, so why say she can't afford it based YOUR judgement of how much braking power SHE needs.
I'm sure we all know, most people buy a car based on look first, then function later. Most truck and SUVs are not bought based on actual off road and towing need.

This lady bought this car on look, she will likely not drive the limit of this car and the tire manufacturer won't make anything for this lady but get into lawsuit if someone else drive the same car to the limit and the tire failed, so yeah, stuck with the size and rating, and no large tire franchise will install anything not meeting the spec on it.

she hasn't needed all seasons so far, so proper summer tyres would be fine too. Depends on her driving style which would be best. My mother drove a lot harder than my dad or stepdad, so there's that...

There are no A/S tires made for Debbie's drop dead gorgeous i8. Only the 3 Summer Max Performance tires listed.
She does not push the car; she drives and enjoys it. Just like she should.

But she thinks the fake engine sounds played through the the radio are stupid...
As far as CA having all seasons, we need the rainy season badly.

Debbie uses her Jeep GC for the messy stuff. She is an avid hunter.
She and her wonderful husband fostered over 25 children prior to his passing.
Ken took on kids who failed in other homes. He was bullet proof.
One time a troubled kid spit in his face. Ken held him and said, "I will never let you go."

When a bunch of us get together, I have no idea who is who, who is their biliogical kids, and who the others are.
A friggin' zoo.

I am close to their biological daughter Emily. Em took her dad's death hard. In the Army, she did a tour in the Iraq desert.
As many do, she got into credit trouble. Em and I got together and straightened it out; took about 3 years. Well done!

I take care of their cars. Cuz I can.
