So my annual free oil changes are finally done and will be doing my first in a few months. Stocked up on oem filters, but was wondering about oil choices. Factory is BMW 0w-30 LL01-FE, but since 2020(?) the dealers are also approved to also use 0w-20 LL-17 FE+. My car has only had the BMW 0w-30 for each annual change.
Note: This is my third car in a rotation of three and only driven about 2k miles per year. It is the N63TU2 and does have a stage 1 tune and hub dyno is showing around 570-580hp at the crank. Car is driven pretty sedately just the same. Current mileage is 13,000 miles
My daily driver is a 2001 BMW 540 M-Sport with 340,400 miles. I have a ton of QS Euro 5w-40 LL-01 around. I also have a bunch of Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-30 LL-04 due to the recent rebate offer. Obviously I can continue to use factory BMW 0w-30, but would there be a reason to simply use one of the two I have a lot of on the shelf?? Would either of the two oils I have now, be considered superior (higher HTHS) than the factory fill? Is LL-04 considered "better" than LL-01 in general?
