There are lots of different reasons to blend. Some look for certain properties in the final mix, like Smiley. Some look for a certain percentage of a synthetic component, such as EOP or PAO. Some are blending to achieve a certain viscosity, like a "thick" 30 weight, or an oil that is at the top or bottom of a viscosity range. Some blend for cost. Personally, I blend to experiment. To boldly go......you know the rest. Currently, I'm running a 50/50 of Havoline 5w20, and Delo straight 30 after learning of the Delo for .99 a gallon at the Zone. The 5-20 was for a little better flow while cold. My Focus is starting normally, even in 20 degree weather, and just gave me an all time high of 31 plus MPG on a long trip on this brew. This meets a lot of goals; good mileage, good protection, added detergents of a HDEO, cheap, (total oil change was less than 5.00 with filter). So, mix on brewmasters, find what works for your particular app, and run it!
