Any of you see anything wrong with mixing Exxon Superflow and Mobil 1 Supersyn together for an '05 Odyssey? Both are 5W20. My thought is that the Mobil 1 is so thin than the Superflow might help keep it from burning off. Don't even know if the Mobil 1 would burn off in this engine, it's still on Dinosauer oil at 5K miles...I bought these two oils on sale right about when Katrina hit. I had planned on running the Exxon for one interval (trying to make sure the engine is well "seasoned"), then changing over to Mobil 1 for the rest of the engine's service. Thanks!

I'd stick with this plan. The PAO basestocks in M1 5W-20 have more heat resistance than the Superflo formulation.

As often reported here, the initial fill of M1 may result in some consumption and the condition is referred to as "seating".

Just stick with it, plan on adding makeup oil & give the M1 additive chemistry time to establish itself.

I have both oils also and while they are compatible and interchangeabe, why mix? I consumed no oil in the first 10k break in of a 2004 Honda Civic. I changed out the oem oil (made by Exxon Mobil) and went to Mobil One 0w20 and also have consumed no oil going on 9,000 miles.

I have noticed that the range in mpg went from 35-38 to 37-41, but in truth do not really know if it was due to 1 normal break in 2 switch from conventional to synthetic oil 3 viscosity change from 5w20 to 0w20.

Another way to approach this to address your rational is go to Mobil One 5w20 and if the engine seems to "consume or use oil" back fill with the Exxon Mobil Superflo till the next OCI. Then change out again with Mobil One.

I wouldnt mix.....i wouldnt be able to sleep at night if i mixed oils in my car. No scientific evidence to base this on, i am just that way

Then again, i have a really hard time letting my car go 3,000 miles between oil changes. After 2,000 miles i start getting really itchy to change it.
