The cost of the analysis with the TBN is too expensive for me. Any alternatives/competitors?

I have used WearCheck and Analysts, Inc. in addition to Blackstone and they are similar in cost. I think Amazon sold some UOA kits from WIX (I think?) that were fairly cheap, but I cannot comment on the quality/thoroughness of those tests.

I would look at Polaris. They also handle OAI and probably other labels. They are a large company and handles all types of oil analysis beyond vehicle oil.

The best deal is to buy a 10 pack at Polaris, maybe split it between 2 or 3 people.

Polaris also provides oxidation and nitration in addition to TBN.

Best of all they provide relevant comments, not the good buddy chit-chat that B/S provides.

WearCheck does include TBN/TAN/Particle Counts, but it still costs more than Blackstone.

Not sure what the blackstone cost? But if it is less than 20 bucks a bottle then you are correct blackstone is cheaper.

I'm glad I found this thread, I'm moving on from Blackstone too. The price they charge now is my breaking point. It costs me more to get the analysis than it does to buy the oil. BITOG member should get a discount from Blackstone...

Unless you suspect a contamination problem, don't do them. Save your $ for oil.

My experience with Wearcheck is that it was $29.00 without shipping and $35.59 with shipping (and without shipping was not an option for me and likely not for others unless they live next door to the lab). How did you manage less than $20?

Okay, what to do. I have Redline 5w20 sitting in my crankcase at 10,000 miles and plan to do an analysis. I have a Blackstone kit. I understand it's about $25 and an added $10 for TBN. Guess I don't need TBN on Redline. More interested in wear metals etc. Anyhow, I hope to change it out next week and send it in. Will definitely post it here.

If you have never ran a TBN on Redline in your particular application with 10K OCIs it is probably worth paying for the TBN on at least one UOA to know where you stand. It is cheap insurance...

Exactly especially on extended drain intervals with synthetic oil.

Every engine may differ, driving environment such as stop and go, mostly highway. Say you drive 25 miles to work clear sailing at 50 mph so that's 1/2 hour on the oil. But stop and go 50 miles may take 1 hour on the oil. Same miles but different hour usage.

I apologize as I have never ordered any bottles from wearcheck. So I was unaware of what they charge. I do get my wearcheck bottles from a distributor for just a little over 20 per bottle. Usually get them in boxes of 100.

I've used several of the WIX kits and the reports include TBN.
Shop Amazon and prices range from $7-18. No way to know if the quality of analysis is equal to Blackstone but the lab appears to be substantial: ALS Tribology.

I use the sample kits through my local Deere dealer, they cost around eleven dollars, plus shipping usually brings the total cost to around thirteen.

This doesn't include TBN, but it is available, my dealer doesn't stock these kits.
