Just curious if anyone has had any problems with the blue plastic dust cover on Bilstein shocks. I am very close to buying a set for my Montero and wanted to see if there are any known problems.

I have them on the Tacoma & no issues
I wouldn't worry much about anything bilsteins

Nope. Why would they be problematic? Do you have any reason/insight to think that there might be an issue?
I had an issue with the rear shocks on my 98 Mustang. They were in a coilover setup and the shop that installed them for me did not change them over to the tighter fitting coilover boots. Nothing that was Bilstein's fault.
No reason for me to believe they will fail but most shocks have metal dust covers on them. My stockers are rusting though and I know the plastic at least will not rust.Just was not sure about other potential damage from cold weather cracking or some other possible issues with them,
I have 5100s with the black rubber covers and the covers.are holding up fine on my daily driver in the salt belt. They came on the truck when purchased, so I dint know when they were installed.
Hello, What are you expecting to pay for fitting Bilstein's to your Montero?
I assume fronts and rears and that you're doing it yourself.
I ask because I just put 'em on a car ('05 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon) and the hardware came to pennies below $700.
Mine came with no boots (reused the existing ones) and the struts' piston was so much larger I couldn't reuse the "sponge wiper". Kira

My 14-year-old GM shocks have black plastic dust covers and crusty, rusty tubes.
"...and crusty, rusty tubes." GM, Marque of Excellence.
The '99 Saab (SAAB) we have has good original shocks, intact shift jalousie and sound interior panels.
The '05 Saab (GM) we have had gone shocks, crumbled shift jalousie and corner-cut interior panels.
GM can go scratch as far as I'm concerned. Hey car freaks, the '65 LeMans was a long time ago.
GM killed the Saab and snuffed out the Saturn.
Cheap marketing carp like Pontiac, Hummer and Oldsmobile (sniff-sniff) I can live without. Kira

+6 No problems at all with them, modern plastics for parts like this are a good thing.
