bilstein oil flush vs. Auto-RX?

I agree, all points of view be aired and addressed, regardless of product or chemistry.

This site is not owned or controlled by Auto-RX. Frank Miller is, however, very sensitive to any comment that might even be perceived as negative about HIS product. I accept that and since I know Frank well, understand where he is coming from. He may not be the best public spokesperson (written), (online for the product), as most paranoid internet geeks will wrongly misinterpret his comments as hiding something ,etc.

Replys to queries about the Auto-RX product.

Auto-RX is inert to the host motor oil , not to cleaning metals in the engine.

It is really high flash, meaning it won't cook off like most solvents do, cleaning only the surface of embedded trash.

Because of that low volatility and gentle cleaning effect its speed of cleaning is dependent on how much RX is used, how hot it gets, and how much contaminants in and on the metal need to be cleaned.

I deal with hazardous chemicals daily( over many years) and must tell you that a product that does not threaten my health is appreciated and in Franks case fighting cancers caused directly from those kind of solvents ,thus his sincerity about that aspect of his chemistry. I respect that too.

Hope that helps and rememeber this board is only as strong as the contributors/posters taking time to ask and reply well to questions. And most importantly if answering having a good base of knowledge about the subject.

I haven't heard of a solvent yet besides AutoRx, at least one that I would want to handle or put in an engine, that seems to dissolve the 'hard carbon' that forms in some spots, especially around rings. Castrol (external) engine cleaner seems to work but it's basically oven cleaner, sodium hydroxide, and after seeing it pit the aluminum on one engine I don't use it as an engine cleaner any more. Combustion chambers seem to be different as a number of products can work, including water.

Auto-Rx is pretty close to perfection on working parts, ring packs, cam followers, ect. However on inconsequential areas such as the inner sides of valve cover, not. ARX works only with temperature, flow, and pressure. ARX can only work where the oil flow is strongest. ARX does is not volitile, so it will do zero as far as vapor degreasing. How important is cosmetic cleaning anyway?

Sodium Hydroxide is a component of many products such as draino, etc. It dissolves organics, which is what most drain clogs are: hair, grease, etc. It is also what was historically known as lye. So, it would depend on the concentration. I used to work w/ it a lot in a lab setting and whenever i'd get a solution of it mixed in water on my hands, I'd end up with a nice hard water-type slick feeling which was actually the outermost layer of skin cells turning into mushy goo.

As for me, I've had personal experience with Berryman Chemtool and never had any trouble. My last saab ran 191,000 until I was in a wreck. I never changed a head gasket, timing chain, blew a turbo, lost compression, had oil consumption of any kind... However, based on the fact that autorx has such miraculous claims, I chose to give it a try in my newer saab which doesn't seem to have been cared for as meticulously by it's previous owner. If it works, you can bet I'll be it's biggest promoter.
